Ministry Highlights: Trunk-or-Treat 2021
| Ministry Highlights | Amy Hirsch
One of my favorite events of the year happened this Sunday, October 24: Trunk-or-Treat! During this fun fall event, we invite church members to decorate their cars and hand out candy in the lower parking lot and we encourage our community to join us for the fun, as we seek opportunities to get to know our neighbors and show them the love of Christ.
This year, we had 18 trunks decorated with all kinds of themes ranging from the minions and science experiments to fishing to Jurassic Park! One of the things I love about Trunk-or-Treat is seeing how people really take ownership and put so much energy and excitement into the day, with adults dressing up in constumes and going all out to make kids smile. It was such a joy to walk through and see all of the children and families interacting with the trunks. Plus, we had plenty of yummy treats, including popcorn, cotton candy, and hot dogs, to share with everyone.
It's hard to get a guesstimate on how many people attended the event, but we served over 500 hot dogs and gave aways tens of thousands of pieces of candy. More than that, we had the opportunity to interact with children from our Early Learning Center, from McElwain Christian Academy, from Grantswood Community School, from Irondale Elementary School, and from our church and neighborhood. Even now, we pray that these meaningful interactions would be seeds planted that might produce eternal fruit, that the people who attended might know God's love for them in Jesus, and that God might draw some of them back to worship with us one day!
