Have you met the Brands? Kate, Abe, and their daughters Caroline, Charlotte, and Elizabeth joined our church on Sunday, February 6. We hope you'll get to know them a little better through this latest "Meet Our New Member" blog, and that you'll have the chance to connect with them one Sunday in worship!
Tell us about your family.
Abe and Kate met in college at The University of Alabama. Abe is originally from West Point, Mississippi and Kate is from Savannah, Georgia. We have three daughters: Caroline is in 8th grade and Charlotte and Elizabeth are in 4th grade. Charlotte and Elizabeth are identical twins.
Where do you work?
Abe works in commercial real estate for Trustmark Bank and Kate is a Nurse Practitioner specializing in sleep medicine and disease prevention. All three girls are in Mountain Brook schools.
What led you to Mountain Brook Baptist Church?
We have been attending Baptist churches our entire marriage (20 years) and like the style of worship and the focus on having a close relationship with Jesus. Abe was raised Baptist and Kate was raised Episcopalian. Mountain Brook Baptist appealed to us through the kind and friendly people and the focus on grace and the gospel.
What is your favorite Bible story or verse and your favorite hymn or praise song?
Abe: The whole book of Ecclesiastes, "I Can Only Imagine"
Kate: Daniel and the Lions' Den, "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing"
Caroline: The Birth of Jesus, "Come as You Are"
Elizabeth: Daniel and the Lions' Den, "Generous Giver"
Charlotte: David and Goliath, "Generous Giver"
What are some of your hobbies and interests?
Abe: Travel, outdoor adventures, hiking
Kate: Cooking, travel, and outdoor adventures
Caroline: Travel, currently enrolled in dance
Elizabeth: Tennis, volleyball, and sewing
Charlotte: Golf, volleyball, and sewing
We all love spending time in the mountains!
What is a fun fact other people may not know about you?
Abe: I spent a summer in college working in Yosemite National Park.
Kate: I am deaf in one ear (not really a fun fact but worth mentioning in case you say something to me and I seem to ignore you 😀).
Caroline: I love camp.
Elizabeth: I have an identical twin.
Charlotte: I have an identical twin who is a mirror twin and I am left handed!
