Have you met the Normans? Rebecca and Blake joined our church on Sunday, January 2. We hope you'll get to know them a little better through this latest "Meet Our New Member" blog, and that you'll have the chance to connect with them one Sunday in worship!
Tell us about your family.
We were married at MBBC by Dr. Splawn in November 2020 and together own a Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy, Jake.
Where do you work?
Blake is an anesthesiologist at UAB and Rebecca is a nurse practitioner with Anesthesiology at Children’s of Alabama.
What led you to Mountain Brook Baptist Church?
In anticipation of our marriage, we began searching for a local church where we could establish ourselves among a faith family. Upon visiting MBBC and experiencing a uniquely warm welcome from all who we encountered (notably including Sharon’s greeting on the entry stairs and an invitation to sit with Mr. and Mrs. Taylor who then introduced us to Dr. Dortch, Dr. Splawn, and Mary), we knew this was a special congregation among whom we felt at home and consistently drawn back to. Along the way, we were blessed to experience many of the church ministries including premarital counseling with Dr. Splawn and Mary, the wedding committee with Jane, and Sunday Morning Bible Study with the Foundations class. In this new year, we are grateful to be welcomed into the MBBC family as members.
What is your favorite Bible story or verse, and/or your favorite hymn or praise song?
1 Corinthians 13 is a special chapter to us as a couple. Rebecca’s favorite verse is John 16:33 while Blake’s favorite hymn is "Because He Lives" because of the new covenant it represents.
What are some of your hobbies and interests?
Traveling together, cooking together, spending time with family, raising our new puppy, and enjoying SEC football (Blake cheers for UGA and Rebecca cheers for Auburn)
