Have you met our new members Holly and Daniel Strawn? The Strawns joined on Sunday, November 12. We hope you'll get to know them a little better through this latest "Meet Our New Member" blog, and that you'll have the chance to connect with them one Sunday in worship.
Tell us about your family. We moved to Birmingham in late May 2023 shortly after Daniel matched at UAB Hospital for residency in Anesthesiology. We got married in October 2021 and lived in Macon, Georgia (our hometown) for medical school prior to moving to Birmingham. We have no children but would love to start a family sometime over the next several years. We have come to love Birmingham and would love to stay after residency is finished. We visited several churches and instantly knew MBBC was where the Lord wanted us to end up. The instant connection with Wayne and Mary and the warm welcome we received from so many members were signs that this was going to be our new church home.
Where do you work? Daniel works at UAB as an anesthesia resident, and Holly works at Samford University in the Career Development Center.
What led you to Mountain Brook Baptist Church? We heard about MBBC from mutual friends and drove by it one afternoon. We had been visiting around at several churches. On our first visit to MBBC, we hadn't made it inside the building before at least three or four people introduced themselves to us, and we couldn't believe how kind everyone was. Wayne's preaching and Mary's outreach drew us in immediately, and we found ourselves in Grace Group Sunday School an hour later, where we connected further with several couples our age. It has been a pleasure getting more involved since.
What is your favorite Bible verse? "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins" (1 Peter 4:8).
What are some of your hobbies and interests? We love spending time together, exploring Birmingham, and trying new restaurants. We both enjoy playing pickleball and riding our bikes in the neighborhood. Daniel loves playing golf and tennis, too.
What is a fun fact other people may not know about you? Daniel played college tennis at Clemson for two years before transferring to the University of Georgia, where we met. Holly met and got on stage with the Jonas Brothers when she was 11!!!
