Meet Our New Members: Cathy & Skip Benton
| Meet Our New Member | Mary Splawn
Have you met Cathy and Skip (W.D.) Benton? Cathy and Skip joined our church on Sunday, February 5. We hope you'll get to know them a little better through this latest "Meet Our New Member" blog, and that you'll have the chance to connect with them one Sunday in worship.
Tell us about your family. Skip and Cathy were high school sweethearts at Woodlawn High School and married in 1979, after graduating from Auburn University. We have three grown children, three wonderful children-in-law, and nine grandchildren (ages four months - six years). We recently downsized and moved to Lincoln, Alabama.
Where do you work or go to school? Skip has been employed at American Cast Iron Pipe Co (ACIPCO) since graduating from Auburn in ductile iron pipe sales; Cathy has had a varied career as a teacher, director of a childcare center, stay-at-home mom, and pharmaceutical sales...she is now a professional grandmother.
What led you to Mountain Brook Baptist Church? We began to visit with our daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Beth and Tom Wagner, and couldn't pass up an opportunity to go to church with two of our granddaughters, Claire Bennett and Elizabeth.
What is your favorite Bible story or verse? One of Skip's favorite Bible stories is when Jesus turned the water into wine because this story shows how God cares for our everyday lives and his favorite verse is our family verse, which is Joshua 24:15; one of Cathy's favorite Bible stories is when Jesus healed the woman with the issue of blood and one of her favorite verses is Job 42:2-3.
What are some of your hobbies and interests? Auburn football; enjoying lake activities, especially kayaking; hiking; walking and soon to be camping; hosting a week of Cousin Camp every summer at our lake house for our grandchildren
What is a fun fact other people may not know about you? We are good friends with retired Atlanta Braves catcher Greg Olson and his family.
