Meet Our New Members: Anne & Mark Rector
| Meet Our New Member | Mary Splawn
Have you met the Rectors? Mark is our new Associate Minister, and Mark and Anne officially joined our church on Sunday, June 12. We're also so excited to celebrate the recent birth of their son Whit!
We hope you'll get to know them a little better through this latest "Meet Our New Member" blog, and that you'll have the chance to connect with them one Sunday in worship.
Tell us about your family. Anne: Mark and I have known each other since third grade, when we were in the same class at Cherokee Bend. We got married right after college and have three children, Joshua (age three), Evelyn Louise (age two), and Whit (newborn). Whit was born on Friday, June 17!
Where do you work? Mark: I serve as Associate Minister at MBBC. Anne: I teach at Mountain Brook Junior High where I teach ninth grade World History and AP Human Geography.
What led you to Mountain Brook Baptist Church? Mark: I came to serve as Associate Minister and be a part of the wonderful congregation here. Anne: I have always had ties with the MBBC community. Growing up I attended Mother's Day Out at the church, and in my teenage years our youth group at Mountain Brook Community Church did a lot with MBBC youth under the Splawns. However, most recently Mark's work brought us here!
What is your favorite Bible story or verse, and/or your favorite hymn or praise song? Mark: I love Galatians 2:20: "I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." My favorite hymn is "For All the Saints." Anne: My favorite verse is Jeremiah 29:13: "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with your whole heart." My favorite song (though technically a Christmas hymn) is "O Come O Come Emmanuel."
What are some of your hobbies and interests? Mark: I love to spend time with Josh and Evelyn, play golf, read, and grill. Anne: I love to spend time with my family, go on walks, play tennis, do crosswords, and swim.
What is a fun fact other people may not know about you? Mark: Anne and I were in the same third grade class at Cherokee Bend. Anne: Mark and I co-starred as the leads in our fourth grade play at Cherokee Bend (unfortunately our theatre skills peaked then).
