Meet Our New Member: Mac McCurry

As new members join our church, one of our goals as a family of faith is to help them connect to our church and to other members. Today, meet Matthew Wade (Mac) McCurry Jr. Mac joined by profession of faith and was baptized on Sunday, May 23.
Tell us about your family. I have two siblings: a brother, Martin, who is 9 years old, and a sister, Mary Parham, who is 7 years old. Our family is nice and follows Jesus. We also really love desserts and sweets! My parents are Jesalyn and Matt McCurry.
Where do you go to school? I just finished 4th grade and am going into 5th grade. This was my first year at Crestline Elementary. I went to Advent Episcopal School from 4K through 3rd grade.
What led you to Mountain Brook Baptist Church? When I was little I went to Mountain Brook Baptist Early Learning Center. My parents, Jesalyn and Matt McCurry, are members of MBBC. I have helped in worship by reading Scripture and handing out worship guides. I also have been to Camp Chandler with kids from our church during the summer.
What is your favorite passage in the Bible? My favorite Bible story is the Good Samaritan because he showed kindness. It reminds me when people are in need to help them and think of others first, not yourself. My favorite hymn is “Up From the Grave He Arose” (Lo in the Grave He Lay). I also like “Victory in Jesus.”
What are some of your hobbies and interests? I play golf, basketball, football, and piano. I am interested in engineering.
What is a fun fact other people may not know about you? I like to write poetry and I am organized.
