Churchwide Updates: Easter Worship
| Churchwide Updates | Dr. Wayne Splawn
On Sunday, March 26, 1967, our congregation gathered for the first worship service in the newly constructed Sanctuary. It seems fitting that the first worship service in our newly renovated Sanctuary will occur this week on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025. Much has changed at Mountain Brook Baptist Church in the 58 years between 1967 and 2025. But one thing that endures is the gospel message that is at the heart of all we do.
In his great love, God has made eternal and abundant possible for all people through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We were dead in our sins and without hope, but God, in his great love, has invited us to repent of our sins and place our faith in Jesus so that we might experience abundant life now and eternal life forever. As a church, we exist to proclaim this message in word and deed and invite all people to respond in faith.
When you experience the new spaces and the Sanctuary on Sunday, I hope you will be pleased with all the work that has been done. Please remember, while the area is almost complete, there are still some final touches that need to be done. So, we ask you to continue to pardon our progress as we complete the project in the weeks to come.
As I consider all the planning, giving, and hard work that has gone into making it possible for us to worship in the Sanctuary on Sunday, I am filled with gratitude to so many people. Our architectural, general contractor, sound and lighting, and landscaping teams have worked long hours and gone above and beyond the call of duty to ensure we will worship in a beautiful, functional, and safe space. Our ministerial and support staff have put in much planning and rehearsal time to lead us in the most faithful and Christ-exalting worship services they can. The lay leaders on our Building Committee, Finance Committee, and Capital Campaign Committee have invested much time and energy in this important endeavor in the life of our church. And so many of our members have contributed your time, talents, and treasures to making this portion of the Renewal Building Project a reality. The overall project is not complete, but this coming Sunday is an important milestone. Please know how thankful I am to each one of you.
As we prepare to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Sunday, it is appropriate that we give the most gratitude and praise to the Lord. My prayer is that we will all leave one of our Easter Worship Services more in awe of the love God has shown us in Jesus Christ and encouraged by the victory Jesus has won over sin and the grave than we are of the building in which we worship. For one day, when we have long passed from this earth and Christ returns to complete his work of making all things new, we will join with the heavenly host in a Sanctuary not built by human hands to forever offer our praise to our Lord and Savior. May our Easter Worship this year be a foretaste of that great and glorious day!
