Churchwide Updates: A Love Divine

 |  Churchwide Updates  |  Dr. Wayne Splawn

I recently came across a website that got me thinking about the value of things I’ve long taken for granted. The website is called “Ordinary Abundance.” The website highlights how technological advancements such as electric light, recorded music, photographs, running indoor water, the washing machine, the airplane, and others transformed the world, such that our current experience of life is something past generations could never have imagined.

For example, can you imagine a time when people did not know what past generations of their family members looked like because they did not have access to a camera to take photographs? Or a time when smoky, dangerous flames were the only way to light your house? Or when your only means of traveling internationally was a long, precarious boat ride? Cameras, indoor electric lights, and airplanes are just a few technological advances that I have come to consider as ordinary. I yawn at things people once celebrated.

This same thing can happen when we consider God’s love for us. We often talk about God’s love in ways that betray a lack of amazement. Consequently, when we are not blown away at the love God has shown us, we do not love him with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Join us in worship this Sunday as we begin our sermon mini-series on God’s love. I invite you to pray alongside me that God would help cause us to stand in wide-eyed amazement at the love he has for us and that we would, in turn, love him more deeply.
