Meet Our New Members: Judith & Tommy Heard

Have you met Judith and Tommy Heard? The Heards joined our church on Sunday, March 19. We hope you'll get to know them a little better through this latest "Meet Our New Member" blog, and that you'll have the chance to connect with them one Sunday in worship.
Tell us about your family. Tommy and I have four children: one son and three daughters. Two of our children (Trey and Addie) and their families live here in Birmingham. Our daughter Jenny and her family live in Charleston. Mandy and her family live in Memphis. We have eight grandchildren ages 15 to 2 years of age.
Where do you work? Tommy and I are both currently retired from Alabama Ladder Co., Inc.
What led you to Mountain Brook Baptist Church? We were seeking a new Bible-based Christian church home. The overwhelming welcome, outreach, and friendship offered to us with the confirmation of Dr. Wayne Splawn as the MBBC minister “sealed the deal” for our decision-making!
What is your favorite Bible verse or hymn/praise song? My favorite Bible verse is Numbers 6:24-26 (RSV): “The Lord bless you, and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you: the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.” Tommy’s favorite hymn is “Amazing Grace.”
What are some of your hobbies and interests? We both attended The University of Alabama. We follow a lot of Alabama sports with family and friends. We love spending time with our children and their families and attending many of our grandchildren’s activities. We both enjoy “working out” (but not always together!) I have loved volunteering with Cooks On A Mission…what a great group of ladies. I also have enjoyed learning and having fellowship with a Bible Study group the church has offered.
What is a fun fact other people may not know about you? Tommy grew up in a VERY small town in North Alabama, very close to the “Coon Dog Cemetery” and the “Rattlesnake Cafe.”
