Meet Our New Member: Amy Harwell
| Meet Our New Member | Mary Splawn
Have you met Amy Harwell? Amy joined our church by statement of faith on Sunday, June 26. We hope you'll get to know her a little better through this latest "Meet Our New Member" blog, and that you'll have the chance to connect with her one Sunday in worship.
Tell us about your family. My husband Fisher, our three-year-old son Graham, and I moved to Birmingham from Southern California last December. Fisher was born and raised in Mountain Brook, so we're delighted to now be in close proximity with his family.
Where do you work? I'm a private voice teacher.
What led you to Mountain Brook Baptist Church? After we moved, one of my priorities was finding a new church. I attended a couple of other churches before coming to a service at MBBC and was absolutely blown away by the warmth and welcome I received that day. Many elements contribute to a great church, such as an inspiring music ministry (MBBC has that) or a spirit-filled pastoral team (MBBC has that, too). Still, above and beyond that, it was the kindness of MBBC's members that told me that I wanted to be a part of this church.
What is your favorite Bible story or verse, and/or your favorite hymn or praise song? I find that my "favorite" stories and verses change from season to season, but a verse that I relied heavily on for the last year is Deuteronomy 31:8: "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." I have loved Christy Nockels' album Be Held: Lullabies for the Beloved for years. I have sung those songs to my son Graham since before he was born, so they will always have a special place in my heart.
What are some of your hobbies and interests? My number one hobby is reading, and I usually have a couple of books going.
What is a fun fact other people may not know about you? We have two of the largest cats you've ever seen. Peanut and Nugget generally think they are in charge of everything that takes place in our household.
