Las Posadas

Las Posadas is generally celebrated in Mexico as a remembrance of the journey Joseph and Mary made to Bethlehem and ultimately, to the stable where the Christ Child was born. It is celebrated between December 16 and 24.  Traditionally, after a meal, a child dressed as an angel leads children and adults through the town, stopping at houses "seeking" shelter for the couple but are turned away and the journey continues.  Scripture is read and carols are sung.
