Service Day

Saturday, October 20

Our annual churchwide Service Day will be on Saturday, October 20. This year we will participate in projects at Grantswood Community School, Irondale Trailer Park, Grace House Ministries, Family Promise of Birmingham Day Center, and a low impact ministry option in Hudson Hall. We will meet in Heritage Hall at 8 a.m. for breakfast and head out to our worksites. We will meet back in Heritage Hall for lunch around 12:30 p.m. Don't miss out on this wonderful opportunity to share the love of Christ with others in our community!

Here are the projects we are offering for this year:

Family Promise of Birmingham Day Center
We will paint the walls of the Day Center and install bins that will allow Family Promise guests to more effectively store personal possessions while they are in the program. This project is open to participants in the 7th grade or older. To learn more about Family Promise of Birmingham, visit this link.

Grace House Ministries
We are going to paint, do yard work, and complete light construction projects. We are going to help this Christian group home for girls turn an empty room into a boutique filled with gently used clothes for the 24 girls living at Grace House. Participants must be in the 10th grade or older to sign up for this project. Irondale Trailer Park
We are going to do crafts, games, and lead a Bible story with children who live at the Irondale Trailer Park. Many of the students who attend Grantswood Community School live here. This would be a great project for the entire family.

Grantswood Community School
We will paint curbs and do landscaping projects at Grantswood Community School. There are no age restrictions for this project, but children should be accompanied by an adult.

Low Impact Ministry Projects in Hudson Hall
There will be several projects in Hudson Hall open to all ages. We will be filling backpacks for children living along the Mississippi River for their Christmas. This project is promoted by Alabama WMU. Each child will receive a Bible and a copy of the Christmas story along with their backpack. We will also make Christmas decorations; the Mellow Brook Singers will deliver them during the Christmas season to retirement and nursing centers after singing to residents. In addition, Nancy Lewis will be teaching and leading a group in crocheting lap throws for our homebound members.
